District observes Texas Public Schools Week

San Benito campuses are observing Celebrate Texas Public Schools Week by hosting Open House events and various activities throughout the week. KSBG staff is proud to present some of the many cool events taking place this week with a series of video productions. If you haven’t made it out to the campuses, there’s still time as secondary schools observe Open House this evening. The festivities end Friday. In this video, Dr. Raul Garza, Jr. Elementary, moms, grandmothers, aunts and guardians visited with their children to create paper eyeglasses in observance of the school’s "Mom and I Can Clearly See My Future!” Check it out!

San Benito High School hosts Murphy Race

It’s been used to play football, soccer, track and field events and has served as a venue to multiple extracurricular events, but recently, participants at Bobby Morrow Stadium had a race of a different kind as San Benito High School hosted the first-ever Murphy Race. The event featured electric race cars designed and built by students as part the the Green Power Electric Car initiative.

San Benito, Harlingen, Santa Rosa and other Valley students participated. San Benito High School Math Teacher and STEMS sponsor Mary Maney explained that San Benito, Santa Rosa and La Feria took advantage of the initiative, which began a year ago, at the request of UTRGV. The goal is to provide advances in education in the area of sustainable engineering and technology. San Benito has two teams and boasts the only all-female team in the Valley, according to Maney. -
