Campus Spotlight | San Benito High School

San Benito High School principal Maria Isabel Solis oversees a multi-building campus “where students have many opportunities to be successful.” The sports complex, cosmetology salon, band hall, and Black Box theatre are among the many facilities available on campus.

Programs available for SBHS students include dual enrollment classes, an Advanced Placement (AP) program, a wide array of Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities, a College and Career Center, an Early College Academy, an extensive athletics program, and an award-winning Fine Arts program. Using professional learning communities, evaluating student attendance, and implementing advanced technological tools in the classrooms have been instrumental in preparing all students for post-secondary success.
According to Mrs. Solis, it’s the committed teachers, faculty, and parents as well as the students’ pride in their school and community that truly make San Benito High School unique. -
San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy | Campus Spotlight

San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy principal Gilbert Galvan is quite impressed with the unique layout of his campus. The various components of the facility give its students a genuine feel for the college experience, and the Texas Success Initiative Assessment, better known as the “TSI test,” is administered to determine the appropriate level of college course work for incoming students.

Among the many programs available to students are NJROTC, After School Program, before/after school tutorials, cheer and dance, athletics, and a variety of music programs. The various components of the Health Science Technology Program and the technology tools available to students help reinforce that early college readiness is one of the campus’ main initiatives.

Vargas taped his April 2019 edition of Board Matters live on Wednesday, May 1, during a special recognition reception celebrating our district’s two most recent and notable accolades – Dr. Raul Garza, Jr. STEAM Academy receiving a national certification from the National Institute for STEM Education and Dr. C.M. Cash Elementary teacher Krystal Contreras being awarded the 2018-2019 Milken Educator Award.

Mr. Vargas shared an overview of the April regular board meeting, announced that the Superintendent’s Golf Tournament Committee would be awarding $100,000 in scholarships to members of the San Benito High School Class of 2019, and gave a quick shout out to the San Benito Lady Hounds softball team – the Class 6A Bi-District Softball Champions! -

Riverside Middle School principal Eliza Jensen-Gomez describes the modern and contemporary school as an “oasis.” The campus is strong in the areas of academics, athletics, and arts – a dedicated team of students earned the school’s first ever University Interscholastic League (UIL) team trophy, there have been new athletic victories, and the arts program is expanding greatly.
